General Conference FAQs

What time zone is the conference in?

• The conference will take place in EDT - Miami, Florida (UTC/GMT-4) 

What is the wifi password?

• When you arrive on campus, please visit https://network.fiu.edu/#visitors for instructions to connect as a FIU visitor.

What meals are included?

• These meals will be provided for all registered conference attendees: Thursday: Dinner at the Welcome Reception, Friday: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, Saturday: Continental Breakfast, Grab and Go Lunch
  
  

Are the slides available?

• When a speaker has elected to make their slides available, they will be included on the SCLC Speakers page with the session description. 

What is the recommended attire for the conference?

• Conference attire will be casual and comfortable. Meeting room temperatures may be cool, and climate varies, so layered clothing may provide the greatest comfort. Be sure to check the local weather for the current conditions.

• Recommended attire for the Keynote and Award Ceremony is semi-formal, though all are welcome regardless of dress. The most important item to wear is your SCLC name badge!
  
  

What health and safety measures will be required?

• Florida International University adheres to updated guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). 
  

Do you have to identify as a woman to attend the Women in STEM Panel?

• All conference attendees are welcome to attend the Women in STEM Panel. Your name badge is your ticket for entry!

Transportation FAQs

How do I get from the airport to the hotel / and back?

How do I get from the hotel to the receptions and/or FIU?

Special Event FAQs

Can I get into the welcome reception without a name badge? 

• No. You must be wearing your nametag to enter the Welcome Reception.
  
  

What is the recommended attire for the evening events?

• Conference attire for the Welcome Reception is casual and comfortable. Be sure to check the local weather for the current conditions.

• Recommended attire for the Keynote and Award Ceremony is semi-formal, though all are welcome regardless of dress. The most important item to wear is your SCLC name badge!

Can I drive myself to the Rusty Pelican? 

• Free parking is available but it is extremely limited. If you are driving, please plan to pay for valet parking ($25). Better yet, just hop on the bus from FIU or Pullman Hotel and let our drivers do the work!

Registration FAQs

Can I pay and register onsite?

• No. Registration closes on March 23, 2023 and pre-registration is required.
  
  

Can I pay after I attend the conference?

• No. Registration closes on March 23, 2023 and pre-registration is required.
  
  

What if I would like to bring a guest?

• Please be sure they are registered by March 23, 2023. Pre-registration is required.

Competitor and Presenter FAQs

What do we do when we aren’t competing? 

• Registered conference attendees are allowed to watch competition presentations as long as you are not competing in the same track. If you are competing, you are allowed to stay and watch the other teams present after your own presentation. 

When do we learn the competition results?

• Competition results will be announced at the Keynote and Award Ceremony on Friday, March 31.
