Welcome to the SIG “culture and IS.”
This SIG AISis serving the content area of culture and IS. There are at least three streams of research of interest to members of this SIG.
- First, "culture and IS" refers to the use of information technologies (IT) in a "cultural industry," defined as any kind of creative industry that embodies one or more cultures, including but not limited to fine arts, performing arts, museums, cultural heritage, movies, music, humanities, entertainment, architecture, or tourism. The IT envisioned are especially the Internet and mobile technologies, but virtual reality and any kind of networking or communication technology would also be relevant.
- Second, the effect that ethnic and national cultures as well as corporate cultures have on the Internet and online behavior such as use of social media or buying behavior on e-commerce sites.
- The third relevant research stream is the emerging "Internet culture," both represented by the Internet millennial generation and the awareness of how to leverage the Internet and mobile resources. In this space is also creative productions that are specific to the cyber-sphere, for instance, online movies or music, cultural productions that might be called "cyber-culture."
The purpose of the SIG is to provide a focal point for the debate of cultural issues in IS research that currently is dispersed over many conference proceedings, journals and books and to strengthen the exchange of ideas and community ties within the IS community and with other disciplines, especially art, archaeology, literature and any other human and social sciences that seek to improve research and the application of research results by drawing on culture and creative industries.
Please join our SIG sponsor event during ICIS Lisbon in December and help us preparing the 2027 "AI summit"
