Back in April 2020, Rick Watson and Blake Ives discussed 'Exploring our assumptions with a simple systems dynamics model'.I've been pursuing a different path, different in several ways.My focus is on assistance to public health policy-makers. They've been under the pump. Their efforts have been filtered by politicians to varying degrees in different countries. Some have managed to deliver pretty well in very challenging circumstances; but many other countries have fared very badly. Is the IS discipline out there, actively supporting policy-makers; or are we hiding away in our burrows / contemplating our navels?Another difference is that I've used discrete event simulation modelling. And the third is that I've been less concerned with the mainstream approach of using a model for quantitive experimentation using a mix of empirical and synthetic data. I've been more interested in using the modelling process to enable policy-makers to share their perspectives and their insights with their team-members, and to generate new insights, e.g. into what missing data would be the most valuable to have. The first output is a paper for delivery at the Bled eConference shortly. A Chapter and a journal article are in review.Thoughts are very welcome, on- or off-list. Thanks! ... Roger------------------------------
